Go2Balkans tourism conference in Sofia

A Southeastern European conference called Go2Balkans begins in Sofia on November, 25 bringing together tour operators, hoteliers and municipalities from Bulgaria and other countries from the Balkan Peninsula.

The event is focused on popularizing the cultural and historical heritage and nature of these countries.

The conference will be held at the Inter Expo Center in Sofia for the 2nd year.

Veliko Tarnovo is third most affordable tourist destination in world

The medieval capital of Bulgaria - Veliko Tarnovo is the third most affordable tourist destination in the world, according Trivago ranking.

The travel search engine ranks destinations according to a quality - price ratio of the tourist services in the cities. The results combine an average hotel price for a night in a standard double room and the average users' rating for hotels in the destination.

Veliko Tarnovo is the only destination representing Bulgaria in the top 100.

Bulgaria Gets Approval to Create World Tourism Museum in Sofia

Bulgaria was granted the approval of the World Tourism Organisation to create a World Tourism Museum in Sofia, announced the Bulgarian Tourism Minister Nikolina Angelkova.

The forecasts of the Tourism Ministry showed that all initiatives on stimulating domestic tourism will contribute to maintaining the positive trend for the growth of the number of Bulgarians spending their holidays in the country.

The Rafting season 2014 is starting!

This year the opening of the rafting season will be combined with the rafting race for the European Cup 2014.

Bulgaria will host a round of the European Rafting Cup on 05th April 2014 from 9:30 am on Struma River at Kresna Gorge.

Bulgarian competitors, as well as guests from Romania and Serbia will participate in the race.

The Struma river is in southwest Bulgaria. The nearest towns to the biggest gorge are Simitli and Kresna. It is located on road E79.

Bulgaria's historical capital - Veliko Tarnovo attracts record number of tourists

A record number of more than 30 thousand tourists have visited Bulgaria's historical capital Veliko Tarnovo on 22 March, the city holiday.

According to statistics of the Regional Historical Museum, as many as 15,650 tourists have visited the architectural reserve, the medieval stronghold Tsarevets. The town's multimedia visitor center, museums and churches have attracted more than 11 thousands visitors in one day, Standart news informs.

Sofia is the most affordable destination in Europe

Bulgaria's capital city of Sofia is the most affordable destination for tourists in Europe in March with average prices of BGN 115, according to the Trivago Hotel Price Index.

According to the latest survey held in more than 50 European cities and resorts by hotel comparison website trivago.co.uk, the cheapest hotels in Bulgaria are located in Veliko Tarnovo and cost an average of BGN 76 per night.

The number of Russian tourists in Bulgaria continues to grow

Bulgaria was visited by 18 113 Russian tourists in January 2014 that is 14,9% more compared to the same period in 2013. The positive results show that Bulgaria is an attractive destination for Russian tourists not only in summer, but also in winter season.

The information was provided by the deputy economy minister Branimir Botev during his visit of a tourist exhibition in Moscow.

The Bulgarian winter resorts Bansko, Borovets and Pamporovo are among popular resorts in Europe.

The number of tourists in Plovdiv increased

Tourists in Bulgaria's second biggest city Plovdiv increased by 7% in 2013, compared to the previous year, reaching 14,261, data of National Statistical Institute shows.

Plovdiv Municipality experts recorded an increase of individual visits of the city, as well as a 5% raise in museum visits, Standart news reports.

Ancient Roman Fortress Restored in Bulgaria's Montana

The ancient Roman fortress Kaleto near Bulgaria's town of Montana has been restored and is opening for visitors.

The project cost BGN 1.3 M and was co-financed by EU funds and Montana municipality.

The restoration of the Montana fortress is among the several similar projects, whose aim is to attract tourists in smaller municipalities. Probably the most well-known so far is the Tsari Mali Grad fortress in Belchin – a village near Sofia, which opened for visitors last summer.
