Srebarna museum asks UNESCO for finantial support

The mayor of Silistra - Ivo Andonov has sent a letter to the General Director of UNESCO Irina Bokova asking for help with the renovation of the Srebarna Museum of Natural Sciences, part of the Srebarna Nature Reserve.

180 000 lv. were invested for an inside repair of the building and of the exhibition in 2009 and 2010. Unfortunately, the roof has started to leak. The show-windows also need renovation. The museum needs 250 000 lv. to be ready for the opening of the tourist season.

The Museum of Natural Science Srebarna, which is part of the Natural Reserve, is listed in the UNESCO World Heritage Site. One third of the population of the Dalmatian Pelican, which is protected species in Europe nests in the Lake Srebarna. Over 220 different species of birds who live near rivers or lakes can be seen in the region.

The museum has been visited by one million tourists from all over the world for 27 years.
