Uzana

Uzana resort is located at the foot of the Ispolin peak (1524 m) in the Stara planina mountain. The nearest town to Uzana is Gabrovo located 22 km away. Uzana is a mountain clearing surrounded by venerable forest and it is known as a geographic centre of Bulgaria marked by a commemorative sign.

In 2008 Uzana is included in the list of 100 National tourist sites of Bulgaria and in 2009 Uzana officially became a resort.

Uzana ski area is situated on 1220 – 1350 metres above the sea level and it is one of the most beautiful parts of the Balkan Mountain Range (Stara Planina mountain). The site provides great opportunities for snow-sports, mountain and eco tourism.

Uzana is a starting point for Bulgarka Nature Park and the Central Balkan National Park.

The site provides wonderful conditions for tourism all year round. The winter is suitable for winter sports and the summer - for mountain hiking, cycling, horseback riding, speleology and rock climbing.

Usana offers 8 ski pistes. The longest one is 1300 meters long and is equipped with Pomagalski drag. The other pistes are smaller and they are suitable for beginners. The total length of the pistes in the site is 3 kilometers. In the future the local enterprises plan to build a ski-run that will pass trough the Bulgarka natural park.

The interest of the tourists is huge and the site is getting more popular. The ski season starts in the middle of December and ends at the beginning of April.

The resort offers accommodation in huts “Uzana” and “The Forest home”, as well as in small hotels as Hlebna hotel and Prima S hotel.

The possibilities for cultural tourism in the region are inexhaustible. In the nearby is situated an open-air ethnographic museum “Etara” where visitors can learn about the Bulgarian crafts. The Sokolovski monastery is situated just several kilometers away from the Uzana site.
The renaissance village of Bojentsi and the town of Tryavna, which saved their architectural appearance for 150 years, are not far away as well.

The Uzana site is a home of rare floral species included in the Red book. The site is a part of an international walking highway, that reaches the shores of the Black sea. And it is the starting point of many mountain routes as well as to Shipka and Buzludja summits.
