Arrived at 03-00 hours, given keys to room and passports taken and told we could get them back in the morning. Firstly we had booked a double room and were given a twin, after pointing this out were told we could sort it out at 08-30. Went to reception at 08-30 and met by the most rude person imaginable, we were told that what we had was a double even though it had twin beds, and only option was to push the two beds together, also told that the hotel was full and we could not change rooms.
We then went out for breakfast, returned and changed to go skiing. After skiing went back to hotel to change and enquired about our passports to be informed that they did not have them. After some debate I was told that she had given them back to me at the same time that I asked about the room. She was very rude and dismissive, at this point I threatened to go to the police as I had not had the passports back, only to be told the police did not work at the weekend. Another member of staff was called and she informed us that they would check the CCTV within 30 minutes .
Some 2 hours later this still had not been done, and we had to get a Bulgarian friend to return with us to interpret, after some time they found the footage of me at reception, which confirmed me not receiving the passports back. At this point they then had to run all that days footage and found that the receptionist had given the passports to someone else and not checked the photo ID even though she said that she always did .

This is not the sort of behaviour that we would expect from a hotel reception, and we will not be returning to this hotel even though we love Borovets and had been going there for many years.

Bulgaria Ski great (although sometimes slow in responding to emails)
Hotel OK. Functional, good location and probablly fair value for money, but
- evening meals no choice and not always great or very well prepared
- internet did not reach room or common areas so not available
- rooms not brilliantly cleaned
