Ski Paradise in the Elena Balkan

Standart Daily

The slopes under Chumerna peak in the Elena part of the Mountain Balkan Range are covered with snow. Skiers enjoy the steep slope and are even booking another downhill for the next week. Miikovtsi village is situated very close to the slope under Chumerna peak. It is huddled amidst beech forest and is favourite site for tourists due to the turbulent rivers, which form deep clear pools. However, during the winter the vicinities of Miikivtsi should be explored only with the company of a good guide and serious equipment.

The access from the neighbouring village Ruhovtsi to Miikovtsi is easy, if you have somebody who can guide you through the mountain trails. Tourists can find a cosy place to warm up, as in the fairy tale of “Glove Shelter” in the so called Grandfather’s house. Ruhovtsi village is situated just 6 km away from the municipal centre Elena which is easy accessible by a nice asphalt road with numerous indicative signs. The famous “Grandfather’s house” is situated just 150 m away from the entrance of the village. You definitely won’t miss it as it has a proudly waving Bulgarian banner. If you are travelling during the night the sign of the house is brightly lit.

Numerous guest houses offer shelter for those who wish to escape the everyday stress in the beautiful Balkan Mountain Range. The owners of the houses assist tourists and offer numerous attractions and events. The site offers numerous opportunities for horseback riding, skiing and even farming.

Guides advise tourists to take warm clothes and mountain shoes as the walking through the snow is hard and dangerous.

Tourists are given the chance to prepare delicious meals on their own.
