Bulgarian Archaeologists Discover Christian Necropolis on Perperikon

Bulgarian archaeologists discovered a Christian necropolis outside the ruins of the medieval fortress near the rock sanctuary of Perperikon, located in southern Bulgaria near the town of Kardzhali.

The team lead by Nikolay Ovcharov found 15 tombs dating back to the 14th century, most likely the resting place of the fortress' defenders executed following its siege by Turkish emir Orhan in 1362.

Syrian Businessman to Build Kardjali Mall

Syrian businessman Aladin Harfan has won an auction for a municipal plot in Kardjali. His company Aladin said it will invest 38 mln levs to develop the site into a shopping mall. The project should be completed within 3 years of the granting of the building permit. Aladin is currently selecting an international advisor to implement the project. The company is also building a shopping mall in the city of Pleven.

Sixteen-century-old Wine Buried in Perperikon

During the excavation of a big settlement of Perpericon from the time of the Roman Empire, archeologists ran into traces of wine, sixteen centuries old. The residues were discovered in four huge terracotta pythoses, which must have been full of wine when buried under the debris. The archeologists date the wine containers judging by the coins and the others finds dated the 3rd or 4th cent. AD, when the rock settlement had its second renaissance. Rock fest Starts in Kardjali

The first annual Bulgarian Koko Rock Fest will take place on September 1, 2007 in the Rhodopi mountain town of Kurdzhali.

The festival will take place every two years with a goal of gathering young rock groups and helping them start their careers, avtora.com reported.

The event is named after the famous musician from Kurdzhali Koko. The festival aims to popularise all styles of rock music including blues, rhythm and blues, rock and roll, hard rock, heavy metal, ethno jazz and jazz rock....
