Lyaskovets


Location: Lyaskovets town is located in the beginning of Elena Balkan, eastern from the Arbanassi ridge. It is 10 km north-easte of Veliko Tarnovo, 2 km south-east of Gorna Oryahovitsa and 5 km south of Yantra river.

History: The name of the town comes from the hazelnut tree (leshnik or leska), which was typical of the region in the past. The region has been inhabited since the 4th millennium BC, but grew as an important Bulgarian settlement in the Middle Ages, during the Second Bulgarian Empire, because of its proximity to the capital fortress of Veliko Tarnovo.

Sighseeing: Lyaskovets is famous for its beautiful churches and the wine, that is produced in the region. The monastery St.St. Peter and Pavel is also located nearby.
The wine tasting in the Lyaskovets wine cellar is known for the good sparkling wines. The most famous Bulgarian sparkling wine “Iskra” is produced in Lyaskovets wine cellar. Other white wine brands: Aligote (dry white wine with specific flavour), Nordkrone (white wine featuring delicate bouquet), dry Chardonnay. Red wines are presented by variations of the Cabernets: dry Cabernet, Cabernet Sauvignon Lyaskovets, Cabernet Sauvignon Oak.
