In 2009, Madara Horseman was chosen as Bulgaria’s emblem. As a site of world significance it has been put under UNESCO aegis. Annually it is visited by 50000 people while its capacity is for over 500000.

A post stamp with the Madara Horseman will be released this Thursday on the occasion of the 30th anniversary since the rock relief was put on the UNESCO world heritage list. The stamp will be promoted by Bulgaria's Minister of Culture Stefan Danailov. The jubilee celebration will close on Friday with a concert of virtuoso violin player Mincho Minchev.

The monumental Madara horseman near Shoumen was selected as the symbol best representing Bulgaria, after voting in a nationwide campaign ended June 29.
The rock relief, which is on Unesco's world heritage list, won ahead of the Cyrillic alphabet, followed by the Tsarevets medieval fortress near Veliko Turnovo, the Bulgarian rose and rose oil, with the Rila Monastery finishing last in the final voting.

Every Bulgarian citizen will have the opportunity to vote to the end of the present week for his choice of symbol, which to embody Bulgaria's essence in the European Union.

The third international biennale on the “Madara Horseman” sculpture starts today, informed Radio Shoumen.
Sculptors from Hungary, Greece, Romania, Macedonia and Bulgaria will take part in the event.
The opening is in front of the Natural-Historical Reserve “Madara”.
The sculptors will model their creations under the Madara Horseman for 10 days. The closing of the Third international biennale is on 31 August.
