Bulgarian Students Organize Fifth International Film Festival in Balchik

The fifth International Short Film Festival in Balchik, organised by Bulgarian university students, will take place between September 9 and 15 2007.

The event can be attended for free by all short film fans, according to Focus news agency.

The 2007 edition of the festival includes participants from 62 countries.

Dental Tourism to Bulgaria Gaining Ground in UK

Dental tourism is an increasing trend with more and more Britons combining a holiday with a visit to the dentist. It sounds odd but for a growing number of Britons who cannot get treatment on the NHS and do not want - or cannot afford - to pay huge bills for going private.

Turkey, Poland, Hungary, Croatia, Bulgaria and now Thailand are cashing in due to their low-cost, high-quality dental care.

Belvedere opens Svilengrad area wine cellar

The Bulgarian unit of French wine and spirits group Belvedere Monday unveiled its Katarzyna Estate wine chateau in Mezek, a village close to the Bulgarian-Greek border in the Svilengrad region.

The 12 euro wine-producing property is surrounded by company-owned vineyards.

Katarzyna Estate comprises 365 ha of cabernet sauvignon, cabernet franc, shiraz, mavrud, ruby cabernet, chardonnay and sauvignon blanc vineyards and several experimental lots with malbec and tempranillo.

Prices at the seaside down with about 20%

Hotel prices at the Bulgarian Black Sea coast have decreased by an average of 20%. This is what chairman of the National hospitality management club Iliyan Ivanov said. He added that, it is a tradition for prices to report serious decrease as of early September, and hotels offer lower prices to attract more tourists.
This year’s summer tourist season is expected to end in mid October.

Archaeological excavations made on Danube Bridge 2 construction site

This is the third day we have been making excavations in the area of the Danube Bridge 2 for archaeological site Necropolis, which is of the late bronze age, Stefan Alexandrov from the Institute of Archaeology has announced. He added the current excavations have been based on 1908 data of archaeologist Atanas Chilingirov. In Alexandrov’s words archaeological research works will be finished within a month.

Honey Fest Starts in Nesebar

For a sixth successive year the Black sea town of Nessebar will host an international honey festival. This year, the event is under the name “The Bulgarian beekeeping in EU”, informed bourgasINFO.com

The official start of the festival in on September 1.

Till September 9, th participants will discuss two main topics: how to get EU subsidies in order to improve the quality of the offered honey and what are the conditions to get funding.

Tourism Eco Project for Park Rila Monastery

The direction of natural park “Rila Monastery” started the project with funds from the Global ecology fund for the popularizing of tourism and preservation of the biological diversity in the region.

The name of the project is “the natural garden of Natural Park “Rila Monastery”. National community “Hristo Botev” and the municipal Rila town and the Southwestern University “Neofit Rilski” in Blagoevgrad are partners in the project.

130 years since the Shipka epopee

One of the key battles in the Russo-Turkish War of 1877-1878 was the defense of the Shipka pass. The most dramatic of those took place from the 21st to the 26th of August (or from the 9th to the 14th of August old style) 130 years ago. The Turks led by Suleiman pasha advanced with a huge army from the south. The defenders of the pass, who were Bulgarian volunteers and Russian soldiers, were faced with heavy odds. Ivanovo rock churches

In the valley of Russenski Lom, Northeastern Bulgaria, in the vicinity of the village of Ivanovo, stands a complex of churches, chapels, and monasteries carved in the rocks and developed in the course of many centuries. The complex is known as the Ivanovo Rock Churches – one of the nine Bulgarian monuments included in the UNESCO list of world culture and historical heritage.

Vidin International Fair Opens Today

The Vidin international fair will be opened today at 9 p.m
The event will be held in the “Nora Pisanti” park. More than 100 local and guest companies will participate with their products in the fair. The trade pavilions are all set.

The exhibition is on an area of 50 decares.

The fair will continue till September 8. It will be open every day from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. The entrance is free.
