Bulgaria is among the top 10 countries to visit in 2014 by the Rough Guides

The recognized British magazine included Bulgaria in the top 10 countries to visit in 2014. The edition describes the country as an intriguing destination with fabulous beaches, balmy weather, low prices, pretty historic towns and friendly people. A sort of cheaper alternative to Croatia it is currently far less touristy. Bulgaria's Bansko - Europe's Cheapest Ski Resort

Bulgaria's ski holiday resort Bansko has been named Europe's best value ski resort by TripAdvisor for the second year in a row.

The resort was found to offer the best value when compared with 40 other ski destinations, based on typical one-day-visit ski costs plus food and drink.

The costs amounted to just GBP 104 at Bansko. A similar day on the slopes at Courchevel in France - the most-expensive destination - was as much as GBP 432.

Pernik builds BGN 300M Disneyland-like adventure park

Pernik's BGN 300 million Disneyland will be located 30 km away from Sofia, Standart daily reports.

The idea sparked in the imagination of young people of the mining town. Officially, the municipality announced plans to construct an adventure park offering alternative activities and entertainment for children and youngsters in the area of Voynikovets.

Alberto Tomba: Bulgaria could host the Winter Olympics at any time

Bulgaria could immediately host the Winter Olympics, ski legend Alberto Tomba stated at the opening of the ski season in Bansko.

"Once Sochi can organize such an event, Bulgaria should also cope'' said the l legend, nicknamed La Bomba.

According to him it is completely realistic for Bulgaria to get the rights to organize the major event in 2022 or 2026 by latest.

Wine museum attracts tourists in Melnik

A wine museum will open doors in Melnik this Saturday, December 21st, 2013. The new attraction in the smallest town of Bulgaria will help the development of wine tourism.

The wine museum is located in the wine cellar of one of the hotels in the town. A rich exposition of wines will be arranged in several halls. Four Bulgarian cities to compete for European capital of culture 2019

Sofia, Plovdiv, Varna and Veliko Tarnovo are the four Bulgarian cities, candidates for European Capital of Culture 2019, recommended by the selection committee.
The four cities have time till the summer to complete their applications. The selection committee will convene in the third quarter of 2014 to make the final selection.

The competition among the Bulgarian cities Sofia, Varna, Plovdiv, Burgas, Gabrovo, Veliko Tarnovo, Russe and Shumen started in the end of 2012. Their candidacies were...

Bulgaria expects white Christmas

Professor Valeri Spiridonov, deputy head of the National Institute for Meteorology and Hydology said he expects that this winter will be colder and with less precipitation than the previous.
According to him the likelihood for snow for Christmas and New Year is very high.
Spiridonov said it is hard to tell with certainty as Bulgaria is at the border of two main climatic areas, but the weather in January and February will most likely be drier and colder.

More Romanian tourists plan a ski holiday in Bulgaria this winter

Over 20,000 Romanian tourists are expected to visit the ski resorts in Bulgaria this winter, according to Romanian tour operators cited by BTA. Bulgaria is among the most desirable destinations for Romanians to celebrate the New Year.

Most of the bookings were made in early September, mostly for packages in Bansko, Borovets and Pamporovo. It turns out that the early bookings for winter holidays in Bulgaria have registered a growth of 30% this year.

A balneotherapy complex to be developed in Sapareva Banya

A Russian fund will invest 18 million leva in the construction of a large balneotherapy complex in Sapareva Banya.

The capacity would be for about 2000 people and will include a centre for rehabilitation, prophylaxis and genetic studies. It will also include a SPA zone and sport facilities, resting areas and restaurants.
Sapareva Banya is known for the hottest mineral water in Bulgaria, with temperature of 102 °С, which gushes out as a geyser near the town. The water is recommended for...
