Mayor bans winter construction in Pamporovo

The mayor of Smolyan Dora Yankova has issued an order suspending construction works at ski resort Pamporovo from December 1 till March 30. The ban aims to ensure the winter tourist season. The freeze also affects the nearby village of Stoykite.

05 October – Day of Bansko

Bansko mountain resort in the Pirin Mountain celebrates its official holiday today. The holiday is marked at the date of the announcement of the Balkan war in 1912, when the town was liberated from ottoman rule by the band of Hristo Chernopeev.

Numerous cultural events will take place in the resort. The program includes:

Wizz Air to launch four new routes from Sofia

Hungarian no-frills airline Wizz Air will fly to four new destinations from Sofia airport, said executive vice-president John Stephenson.

As of May 22, 2010, the carrier will carry out three flights a week to Madrid, Paris, Frankfurt and Bologna, with one-way fares starting from BGN 33.99 with taxes, excluding luggage, insurance and bank transfer surcharges.

The 10th edition of the Balkan festival for films and TV programs for children and youths “Art Amofora” will be opened on 29 September 2009 from 9:30 AM in Nikola Vaptsarov community centre, Bansko.

The film shows will start after 2:00 Pm in the exhibition hall in Nikola Vaptsarov museum.

“Baba Vida” presents graphics by Goya and Rembrandt

Over 40 graphics by famous artists as Goya, Rembrandt, Dore, Gavarni and Dürer will be exhibited today in “Baba Vida”. Thus with the exhibition “European graphics” Vidin will participate in the European days of the cultural inheritance.
The unique artworks were granted by Mr. Bogomil Rainov to the “Nikola Petkov” Art Gallery.
In October the Art Gallery will present artworks by Chavdar Petrov, Aneta Dragushano and etc. - to mark the official holiday of the town “Dimitrovden”.

Over 10 000 tourists have visited the Belohradchik Rocks for the holidays

Over 10 000 tourists have visited the “Kaleto” fortress and the “Magura” cave nearby Belogradchik for the past 4 holiday days, announced Mr. Lyubomir Veselinov, from the local municipality. Over 230 000 visitors have seen the unique rock formations from the beginning of the year.
Thus Belogradchik municipality turns into an attraction of a great significance for the historical and culture tourism in Bulgaria.

Karanovo Burial Mound to Be Open for Tourists

Nikolay Grozev, mayor of the southeastern Bulgarian town of Nova Zagora, insists before the Ministry of Culture that the unique Karanovo tell (burial mound) should be open for tourists.
The idea aims at turning the archaeological site into a cultural tourism center. The Karanovo tell is the biggest of the kind in Europe.

Bulgaria Archaeologists Find Unique Cult Complex at Perperikon

A team led by Bulgarian archaeologist Prof. Nikolay Ovcharov has uncovered an enormous cult complex at the ancient Thracian city of Perperikon in the Rhodoppe Mountains.

The complex consists of at least 9 altars each 2 meters in diameter located on an area of 12 square km. They are dated back to about 1 500 BC thanks to objects discovered around them, which is about the time of Ancient Egypt and the civilization of Mycenae and Minoan Crete. National eco initiative “Velo Rally Uzana 2009”

“Velo Rally Uzana 2009” will take place during the holiday 19 – 22 September, in Uzana site nearby Gabrovo. The event is organized by Gabrovo municipality in cooperation with ykling club “Ispoin”, “Eco Society” foundation and the alliance for sustainable tourism in Uzana. The organizers plan it to become an annual event, allowing the main accents of the program to be changed, including different eco and tourism initiatives, competitions and entertainment activities.
