The magical Rupite site

Georgi Georgiev

Rupite site is situated about 8 km northeast of Pertich at the foothills of Kozhuh Mountain. The height is part of the periphery of an extinct volcano and its centre is the fertile meadow named Rupite. That’s why there is something magnetic and unique in this site.

There are two things make Rupite famous: the thermo–mineral springs and pools with their healing waters. The other important fact is that the phenomenal prophet Vanga lived and died here. Her life and work were closely connected with this site and she was buried in Rupite. Vanga was officially prophet of standing and her mantic abilities helped many people. The chuch “St. Petka” was built here in 1992 nearby Vanga’s house. It was her decision the temple to be built here. When Vanga was asked why she chose this site to spend the rest of her life and to built the temple she said mysteriously: “I have my time here. This site is very special. I use it like an accumulator and it gives me energy and power. A terrible fire burned there in the past and a great secret is hidden in the ridge above us.”

Sure enough - Rupite site is situated in the crater of the extinct volcano, Ruins of the ancient city Heraclea Sintica, destroyed by the volcano, are not far away from here. The healing power of the mineral springs is wide famous from a long time ago and probably we are on our way to understand the secret of the ridge. Vanga died on 11 of august in 1996 and her fallows said that she had predicted the date of her death. She was buried near the church.

Today the complex “Rupite” is unique and very attractive heritage left by the nature and Vanga. The courtyard is covered wit flowers and it is marvellously arranged. “St. Petka” church is rising on the left side of the entrance. The building is interesting with its modern architecture. It combines the Orthodox canons and the non-standard point of view of the artist Svetlin Rusev. A white bridge leads to the temple and the small river is hidden under the abounded vegetation. Little turtles and other God’s creatures are roaming among the ferns, making the site around the bridge very colorful.

There are several small houses on the other side of the river, right in front of the entrance. Vanga used to live and to foretell in one of them. A fertile orchard garden divides the house complex from the river and the church.

The famous thermo-mineral springs and pools are situated on the right side of the entrance next to the height Kozhuh Mountain. The temperature of the water is 75°С and it springs from magma rocks. They were formed after the volcano eruption. Vanga had spoken many times about the properties of the water. Not a long time before her death she said: “The water in Rupite site is very curative. It heals any deceases. Your children have to walk around barefoot and to bathe in the pools. …But don’t use this water for business. If you start to sell the water, the water will vanish from Rupite and God knows where it will appear again. You have to keep this water!”

Today the baths in Rupite are opened in any time of year and hundred of people find alleviation of different cases. And every one, who has been here, keeps Vanga’s testament and gives honor to this magical site.
