Spring morning in Sandanski

Sandanski is huddled amidst a picturesque valley, fenced by the Pirin Mountain to the north and east and Belasitsa Mountain to the south. I have visited the town several times before, but each time, I like it more and more. Sandanski is a resort town with over 80 mineral springs in the region, whose temperature varies from 33̊̊ C to 83̊ C. The resort is famous for its healing climate, which is healthy for the people with lung diseases. However few people know that this is due to...

PARK HOTEL TROYAN – Relax and Elegance for Everyone

If you ever happen to visit the Northern beautiful lands of Bulgaria, I would definitely recommend you to pass through the picturesque town of Troyan.
Famous with its nice friendly people, traditional mehanas and a peaceful downtown, strewn with museum houses, Troyan is a real inspiration for visitors.
And so it was last weekend for me and my friends - the young team of VisitBulgaria.NET, who visited it for a holiday weekend break.
The tranquil nature, the chirruping spring birds and the...

The miracles of the Troyan Balkan

It was a sunny mid April Saturday morning when we headed to Troyan. The spring has already arrived in Bulgaria and trees and flowers were proudly showing their blossom garment.
The blue sky and the shimmering sun beams were cheerfully playing on the front window of the car.
There we were – me and my company full of energy, eager to dive in the beauty of the awakened nature. That is why we choose Troyan- one of the most beautiful and hospital Bulgarian towns right in the heart of the Balkan...

Sopot, moutain bike freeride paradise

Can’t you feel it, the spring has come and it is the beginning of the new Mountain bike season. Many of the mountain bikers in Sofia, including me, have pieced together their new bikes during the winter and it is high time that they tested them at some other place different from Vitosha. So, on Saturday evening, after we had done about 10 downhills in Vitosha, the guys from one of the best MTB teams in Bulgaria invited me to come with them in Sopot on the next day. They chose Sopot not only...

Winter tale in Pamporovo

It was February winter evening in the pretty Rodopean town Chepelare. The snow was falling gently on the cold ground and I was extremely happy because I imagined the rounded peaks of Rodope Mountain, covered with snow and the ski pistes of the magnificent resort Pamporovo, full of skiers. I checked in the hotel and I went in my room waiting anxiously for the next day. And the morning was just what I wanted to be. I was wakened by the sun, whose beams had managed to make their way through the...

A Saturday in Borovets

The spring is on its way now and most of the people are on a shopping therapy during the weekend, because March is the sale month, when the new spring and summer collections come at the market. Although my girlfriend is recently on me for I have to renovate my wardrobe, I was not on her suggestion to fool me around the shops the whole Saturday. Instead of this I putted my snowboard equipment on, pushed the peeled board into the car and made my way to Borovets.

After an hour...

Smolyan, the town where Orpheus still sings

I arrived in Smolyan in the late afternoon. The March sun was slowly reaching the hills of the Rodope Mountain and shined over the town with its soft reddish beams. I passed through the first neighbourhood, Ustovo and reached a sign “Architectural reserve”, and the bell tower of the local churched rose above me. It turned out that I am already in Raykovo neighbourhood, and right before me was the Cheshitska Mahala (the region of the contradictory people) – the revival pride of old Raykovo. As...

Momchilovtsi – the heart of Rodope Mountain

I was in the middle of the road between Pamporovo and Smolyan in the small village Sokolovtsi when I saw the sign “Momchilivtsi” and I made my way to this Rodopean village. Sunbeams were playing through the front window of my car and the white – red martenichka hanged on the mirror playfully swayed. It was the 1st day of March, the next of my tour around the Rodope Mountain. Momchilovtsi village was my destination of the day.

I didn’t know what to expect but I was sure that it would...

1st March, the Spring Holiday

If one morning you get out on the street and everyone is smiling, wearing red – white tassels, it means that today is 1st March or First Spring day, and you can think of at least 20 people, that you have to gift with a martenichka. To find martenicha is not a hard thing, because the pavement along the streets is scattered with stands, piled with countless colorful amulets for health and happiness. It is hard to make a decision, which exactly matrenitchka is suitable, as all of the models are...
