British Students Make Excavations in Cherven

British students will make archaeological excavations in the town of Cherven.
The Mediaeval town is situated on the banks of Cherni Lom river. The Thracians were the first inhabitants of this fertile region. The fortress was built in 6th century by Byzantine Emperor Justinian I. In the 13th century, in the period of the Second Bulgarian Kingdom (1186-1396), Cherven was one of the most important military, religious and economic centers of Bulgaria.

Weekend Tourism Becomes Popular along the Danube River, Bulgaria

The weekend tourism in Bulgaria, along the Danube River is becoming very popular these days, especially amongst Romanian tourists. The weekend package tours in Rousse Municipality are gaining significant popularity. Roussenski Lom, Cherven Ancient Fortress, Ivanovo Rock Monasteries and the Danube River itself are attracting tourist spots for the North Countries’ visitors.

Ancient Roman Town Ruins Found in Bulgaria

Bulgarian archaeologists have unearthed the remains of an early Roman town near the village of Gorsko Ablanovo, 30 kilometers south of Russe, Bulgaria's national television reported.
Initial artefact findings include a bronze duck figurine of a previously unfamiliar design and a silver fibula, which is only the fifth documented find of its kind in Bulgaria.

The stone foundations of the houses have been preserved well, despite intensive agricultural activity.
