A new archaeology park will be designed in Sandanski

Sandanski spa and wellness resort holds a good chance to become a cultural tourism center.
Sandanski municipality already signed an agreement for the implementation of a project, planning the construction of an Architectural Park in the resort town.
The project is estimated to cost 6.1 million leva and will be funded by the Regional Development operational program. The cultural heritage of Sandanski is considered among the richest and most versatile in Bulgaria.
The region boasts 5000 cultural monuments dating back to all periods of human civilization. Among the gems of Sandanski are the Episcopal Basilica, The Basilica of Bishop John and the architectural complex of the Early Christian times. The three sites will be united in one Architectural Park. It will guarantee their conservation, restoration and make the park a magnet for tourists. Both basilicas are decorated with unique mosaics and it is planned to put them under a glass-and-steel “lid” along with a unique stone water fountain in the atrium.
