Sofia Marks World Earth Day With A Bike Parade

On April 22 the whoole world celebrates the International Earth Day. This is the biggest non-religious holiday around the globe.
On today's day the spring begins in the Northern Hemisphere and fall in the Southern Hemisphere.

The Earth Day is a time to look at pollution and poverty problems. This is the day when the earth citizens express readiness to build one stable world, where humanity and nature are in harmony.

The first national Earth day has been celebrated on April 20 1970 in USA and Canada.
Bulgaria joins the world celebrations on April 22 1992, becoming one of the first countries that join the initiative.

Bulgaria's capital Sofia is about to hold plenty of events, dedicated to the special day.

There will be an open-air photo exhibition ‘Earth from Below' at 2.00 pm at Ariana lake in Sofia's downtown.

At 4.00 pm a bike parade will start from Sofia University in several directions. For the purpose main streets of the city will be closed.

Temporarily info-stations will be set up in the city, where issues like pollution, alternative tourism, lack of bike-alleys and overbuilding of the Bulgarian seaside will be discussed.

The Earth Day will end on stage in Borisovata garden with a special ‘Music for the Earth' concert.
