Eagle On The Danube Festival in the ancient town of Novae

The 3rd edition of Eagle On The Danube Festival will be held on June 4th to 6th 2010 in Svishtov city and the nearby ancient town of Novae.

The festival recreates the military life of Imperial Rome and its collisions with tribes of the Ancient World – Thracians, Dacians, and Goths.


This year the reenactments include participants from Rome (Italy), Lublin and Hrubieszow (Poland), Cluj-Napoca (Romania), and the local First Thracian Cohort - Svishtov (Bulgaria).

The first international cruise ship for 2009 lay aboard at Svishtov

The first international cruise ship for 2009 lay aboard at Terminal 1 of Svishtov port. 110 tourists from the Western Europe visited Svishtov as part of the program of “Primadona” ship. The ship came from Tulcha and went on to Belgrade, Budapest, Bratislava and Vienna.

70 international ships with the total number of 7520 passengers berthed abroad at Svishtov port in 2008. 84 ships with more than 9000 passengers are expected in 2009. The number increased because of the Svishtov port policy,...

The first international cruiser ship for 2008 has landed today at Svishtov port
160 tourist from Great Britain visited Swishtow as part of the tour program of the cruiser ship "Johan Straus" at 7.30 AM this morning. The route of the ship starts from Passau (Germany).The program incudes visits of the cities of Vienna, Bratislava, Budapest, Svishtov and Rousse. Antique Swimming Pool Excavated Near Svishtov

A unique antique Roman swimming pool emerged from the ruins of Novae - an ancient town in the vicinity of Svishtov. The discovery was made by Polish archeologist Dr. Andrjei Biernadski, who has been working on the excavations since mid June. Historians' term for the ancient pool is "nymphaeum." "No equivalent of this pool has been excavated in Bulgaria so far," said archeologist Pavlina Vladkova, who has been exploring Novae for the past 20 years.

Bulgaria and Romania Revive Water Transport Connection

The traditional passenger line between Svishtov and the Romanian town of Zimnich has officially opened on June 05, announced from BTV.

The first passengers were 150 Romanian children, who came to Bulgaria to celebrate 1 June, the International Children's Day.

The Danube connection between Svishtov and Zimnich is revived after more than 10 year interruption. The 150-seat ship “Vihren” will transport passengers from one shore to the other in only 15 minutes.

Passenger Ship Line Connects Bulgaria to Romania over the Danube

A 200-seats passenger ship will travel from Bulgaria's Svishtov to Romania's town of Zimnich starting from June 1.

After the successful completion of the talks for reducing the passenger ship taxes, the mayors of the two towns have also agreed to abolish the port taxes for passenger traffic.

The new Danube transport line will operate every Friday, Saturday and Sunday, twice daily. The return ticket will cost only EUR 5 and this is a fast, easy and comfortable way of travelling between the...

Ancient City of Nove, near Svishttov will be explored

Scientific exploration of the Roman city of Nove, located near the town of Svishtov, will begin in June 2007.
One of the Bulgarian teams to work on the site will arrive in June. A team from Sofia University and one from the Warsaw University should arrive later, Focus news agency reported.


Exploration began in 1960, when a Bulgarian- Polish team started inspecting the region near Svishtov, where the Roman city is located.
