Archaeologists Present Medieval Relics in Veliko Tarnovo

Standart daily, Konstantin Sabchev

"The Middle Ages in Bulgarian history are not 'dark'". With these words prof Nikolay Ovcharov and Associate Professor Hitko Vachev presented part of the artifacts dated back to 12 or 17th century unearthed during the excavations in "St. Peter and St. Paul" and "St. Ivan Rilski" churches in the town of Veliko Tarnovo. The archaeologists found a golden ring with an amethyst, a golden earring, silver gold plated pin with a pearl, part from a gold plated facing of a manuscript, silver ring with enamel lilies made in a French jewelry workshop and remains of fine fabrics.
The found disproves the opinion that Bulgarian aristocracy has been swept away by the Ottoman invasion, the archaeologists believe.
